Plaster & Drywall Repair Before the Holidays

With the heat on and more time spent indoors, cracked ceilings and damaged walls get harder to ignore. Late fall is a practical time to repair them, so your space is ready before the holidays. Here is how we handle plaster and drywall repair for homes and businesses across the Bronx, Westchester, Long Island and Philadelphia.

Why late fall is the time to fix walls and ceilings

As the weather cools, windows close, the heat comes on and more of the day is spent indoors. That is usually when cracks in a ceiling, holes in a wall and rough patches that were easy to ignore all summer start to stand out. Dealing with them now means the work is finished before the holidays, when guests, family and the busiest weeks of the year arrive at your home or business.

Repairs also come first in any painting plan. If you are thinking about a fresh coat indoors, our post on interior painting in fall explains how the prep and the finish fit together, and the repair step is the part that decides how smooth the final wall looks.

What our plaster and drywall repair covers

Our plaster and drywall repair work handles the everyday damage found in homes and commercial spaces:

  • Wall and ceiling cracks: opened up, filled and reinforced so they do not simply reopen.
  • Holes and patches: from small damage to larger sections that need rebuilding.
  • Settled seams and corners: repaired and finished flush with the surrounding surface.
  • Ceiling repair: patched and blended so the repair does not show under the light.

How a repair gets done

Every repair follows the same steps we use on all of our jobs.

Assess the damage

We check how deep a crack or hole goes and whether the surface underneath needs reinforcing. A hairline crack and a section of loose plaster are different repairs, and we want to know which one we are dealing with before quoting the work.

Patch and reinforce

The damaged area is filled and reinforced so the repair holds instead of cracking again in the same spot.

Blend and prime

Each patch is feathered flush with the surrounding wall and primed, so it does not show through once the wall is painted.

Paint to match

Because the same team handles both the repair and the painting, the finished wall looks like one continuous surface rather than a patched one.

What to look for before you call

A quick walk through the space helps us scope the job correctly. Note any cracks, holes, stains or soft spots on plaster or drywall, and tell us about any dates you need the space back by, whether that is a family gathering or a business that has to stay open. If you also have work planned outside, our post on exterior painting before winter covers why that job is the one to book first.

Why work with Prime Finish Group

Prime Finish Group is EPA certified and OSHA certified, which matters in older buildings where paint layers may include lead paint and where work has to be handled safely. We send someone to look at the actual space in person before giving a price, rather than quoting blind over the phone, and we price honestly and transparently. We have been doing hands-on painting and plaster repair work since 2020 for both residential and commercial customers. Our team is reachable Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 8:00pm, at (929) 839-1333.

Where we work

We are based in the Bronx and take plaster and drywall repair jobs in Riverdale in the Bronx, Yonkers in Westchester, Hempstead and Malverne on Long Island, and Philadelphia and Chestnut Hill in Pennsylvania. Prewar co-op apartments, two family houses, rowhouses and storefronts each have their own walls and their own quirks, so we scope every repair around what is actually in front of us. We have also written about our repair work in Philadelphia. If a crack or patch has been bothering you, late fall is a good time to get on our schedule.
