Yonkers' housing mix and what it means for interior painting
Yonkers is Westchester's largest city, sitting right on the Bronx border, and its housing includes apartment buildings, two family houses and single family homes on the same streets. An apartment unit, a two family house and a larger single family home do not all call for the same approach inside, from how many rooms are being painted at once to how much prep the walls and trim actually need. What our interior painting process looks like
Every interior job starts with the same full prep described on our interior and exterior painting page: floors, trim, fixtures and hardware get masked and protected before a single coat goes on. Skipping that step to save time is exactly how paint ends up on baseboards, hardware and flooring that were supposed to stay untouched.
Priming and two finish coats
Where the surface calls for it, we put down a primer coat first, so the finish coats actually bond and hold up over time instead of wearing thin. From there, two full finish coats go on, rolled and cut in by hand, and we run a light across the finished walls before calling the job done.
Older apartment buildings and plaster walls
A lot of Yonkers' apartment buildings and older two family houses have plaster walls rather than drywall, and plaster develops cracks and loose patches over time that plain paint will not fix on its own. When that is the case, we handle the plaster and drywall repair first, patching and reinforcing cracked or damaged sections, before any paint goes on. We are also EPA certified and OSHA certified, which matters on Yonkers buildings built before 1978, the same reason those certifications matter across our other certified work in New York.
